Beautiful vintage Spode Archive Collection dinner plate featuring the Georgian Series “Floral” pattern in a rich cranberry red.
The design features a delicate passionflower-style botanical motif at the center, surrounded by an exceptionally detailed border of roses, blossoms, foliage, and ornate scrolling motifs. Based on a Spode design first introduced circa 1830, the pattern was reproduced as an underglaze print from a hand-engraved copper plate, capturing the intricate character of early English transferware.
With its open ivory center and elaborate floral border, this is a wonderful pattern for mixing rather than matching. Pair it with ironstone, creamware, floral china, or other red and mulberry transferware for a collected table. Equally beautiful used for dinner, layered into a place setting, or displayed among English pottery.
