A striking vintage Dutch Delft Blue plate, richly decorated in classic cobalt blue with a graceful bird surrounded by an exuberant arrangement of flowers and foliage.
The beautifully detailed central scene is framed by an ornate floral border and gently scalloped rim, giving the piece wonderful depth and movement. The varying shades of blue against the creamy white ground are especially lovely, from deep inky cobalt to softer washes of blue.
Marked on the reverse “1036, Delft Blauw, Hand Painted, Made in Holland.” The foot includes holes for hanging, making this equally lovely displayed on a wall, propped in a hutch, or layered among a collection of blue and white pottery.
