The Season of Gathering Begins
September always feels like a turning point. This year, it has felt especially so.
Perhaps that is one of the gifts of a changing season. Whether it brings a change in the weather or a change of scenery, it gives us the chance to take stock and clear away what no longer serves us.
Let’s slow down, look around and make a little room—for ourselves, for the people we love and for what truly matters.
The days are still warm, but the light begins to change. Dinner lingers a little longer, candles return to the table, and home starts to feel like the place we want to be.
This week, I filled a favorite vintage pitcher with the first arrangement that truly felt like fall—white mums, rich foliage and sparks of orange. Nothing elaborate. Just flowers on the table and a reminder that beauty belongs in the everyday.
LIGHT THE CANDLES
There is something about candlelight that makes even an ordinary dinner feel considered. A pair of old brass candlesticks, a beeswax taper and the dishes you already love are often all a table needs.
Don’t save them for the holidays. Light the candles on a Tuesday.

The season of dinners, drinks and friends around the table is coming—but gathering doesn’t have to mean formal entertaining.
Set out a generous serving bowl. Open the wine. Mix the old dishes with the everyday ones. Let everyone help themselves and stay awhile.
